It will tell the story of the 1st-century Jewish prince, Judah Ben Hur, who was born a noble, suffered a miscarriage of justice then went on to become a galley slave and champion charioteer during the time of Jesus.
Combining light, sound, water, wind and pyrotechnic effects, the show will be performed in the round as if in a Roman amphitheatre.
The centrepiece will be the chariot race in which five teams of four horses will race round the track at up to 35mph.
Accompanying the drama will be a symphonic soundtrack created by the Hollywood composer Klaus Badelt, and an English-speaking narrator,
Franz Abraham, the German producer who has spent 15 years developing Ben Hur Live, said: "The show will have the speed of a musical, the depth of great theatre, the power of a rock concert and the visual opulence of a Hollywood blockbuster."
The show, which is based on the 1880 novel Ben Hur - A Tale of Christ, by Lew Wallace, will open in September next year.
