The world-famous Donington racecourse was originally built in 1931 to stage motorcycle events but was used as an Air Force facility during WWII. The circuit remained closed until it was bought by local businessman, Tom Wheatcroft, and after huge investment was finally re-opened in 1977.
Set in the striking countryside Donington in the English Midlands, near the village and castle Donington, the circuit is embedded in a natural amphitheatre and has already been regarded as one of Britain’s finest purpose-built circuits; a recent facelift to the pits, race control and the media control complex, aims to increase the experience for both, riders and spectators alike. Racing events at Donington are must-see spectaculars on the MotoGP calendar.
A flowing layout of the circuit, only broken up by a slow second-half to tight corners, makes for a smooth racing and good corner speed, combined with severe braking and rigid acceleration.
