The First Direct Arena – formerly known as the Leeds Arena – was opened in 2013. Curiously it is credited with two opening dates. It officially opened its doors when Elton John played to 12,000 people on the 4th of September 2013. However Bruce Springsteen had already played a concert there to 13,000 people some six weeks earlier on the 24th of July. The venue takes its name from a sponsorship deal the bank First Direct. It was constructed to meet the demand for a large scale venue in Yorkshire and its capacity is around 13,500. Design wise the Arena has been nominated for awards celebrating its fan shaped orientation whilst simultaneously being nominated for an ugliest building of the year award. The venue holds events of all types including music, comedy, sports, and family shows. The First Direct Arena is in Leeds City centre. It’s around a 15 minute walk from the main bus and train stations and there are 7500 parking spaces also within a 15 minute walk.
