With a capacity of 2500 seated the Apollo Victoria is one of London’s larger theatres. It’s located opposite Victoria station(s) and is thus easy to reach via any number of buses, tube trains, mainline trains, and even coaches. Opened in 1930 as part of the Gaumont chain of British cinemas the building is a great example of Art Deco style architecture both inside and outside and its original features are retained. In its early years it featured both cinema and theatre performances as well as big band shows popular at that time. The venue closed as a cinema in 1976 and reopened as the Apollo Victoria Theatre in 1981. The Apollo is mostly known for long runs of musical theatre shows. Starlight Express ran there for eighteen years and its current show “Wicked” has been running since 2006.
